The Global Location Number (GLN) issued by GS1 organisations is used to identify companies and respectively their functional, legal or physical entities. GS1 grants the uniqueness of a GLN provided to a company.
Therefore it's recommended to use it as ID for logical mailboxes.
The GLN is a 13 digit number containing the following structure: 9012345000011
•90.......country prefix, identifying the issuing GS1 organisation
•99999....company prefix, identifying the owning company
•30464....range for allocating numbers identifying the actual entity of a company
•1. ......check digit, calculated by applying a check algorithm on the former 12 digits
Within the Electronic Data Interchange GLNs are used to address/identify companies or entities of it. The GLN acts as the address of a logical mailbox within eXite® (as logical mailbox as described in Logical Mailbox).
Furthermore the GLN or, to be more precise, the range within the company prefix, is also used for allocating GTINs (Global Trade Item Number) in order to identify products within EDI documents.
