Addressing

As far as addressing is concerned, a distinction has to be made between the address transmitted within an UN/EDIFACT envelope (UNB segment), and the addressing scheme of a general message transfer system, such as X.400 and others.

The message transfer systems addressing envelopes (i.e. X.400 header) of inbound EDI-data are removed, before the EDI message is finally stored inside an eXite® mailbox.

To guarantee a correct delivery of messages from non-eXite® EDI-partners to eXite® mailboxes the “nickname” of the target mailbox has to be used as the recipient-ID within the UN/EDIFACT UNB-segment at any time. Usually the “nickname” is the GLN (GS1 Global Location Number) of the eXite® partner, a 13-digit number.

Example using the GLN as “nickname”:

UNB+UNOA:3+9098765000008:14+4098765000003:14+050818:14:12+.....

                                 |

                                 V

                         Receivers nickname

Without a correct recipients GLN within the UNB-segment, the correct (target) eXite® mailbox cannot be identified, and thus the EDI-message cannot be delivered.

Please note: If a new non-eXite® user wants to send messages to eXite®, it is highly recommended to contact the eXite® administration support (Tel.: +43-1-5058602 Ext. 99, Email: support@editel.at) and provide company name, contact information, GLN and X.400-address of the other VAN. This is to the benefit of the EDI partner and makes future administration and support (tracking and tracing) much easier.

For messages sent across the gateways eXite® users also need to carry a correct recipients “nickname” within the UNB-segment. This “nickname” is usually the partners GLN and is used at the eXite® gateway to route the message to the correct target mailbox of the interconnected EDI service.
